FAQ

How do I order?

To order, you must wait till for the next shop release/ story sale. Releases can come in as “ready to ship” shop releases or “Made to order” shop releases.

Zhinh offers small batch shop releases that happen 2-4 times a year depending
on life :).

What is a RTS release?

RTS release means “Ready to Ship” meaning in this shop release, everything listed has already been made and cannot be customized. It is as pictured and takes from 1-2 weeks after purchase to ship out depending on the size of that shop release.

What is a MTO release?

MTO release means- “Made to Order” meaning in this shop release, everything listed has NOT been made yet. These releases are the best time to order something in your size/ length (if your size is offered in that style), as it is made to order and can be slightly altered to better fit you. MTO releases can take up to 4-12 weeks to make depending on the number of MTO orders that are placed. Sometimes the amount of MTO orders get to be too many and therefore I will have to extend the due date. I like to try to ship them out as they are made but most times I make a big handful and ship out all at once. All purchases made from a MTO release are definitely not exchangeable, as these were pieces personally made for you. SO it’s crucial to discuss sizing with me (email me) ahead of time to be absolutely sure.

How long does it take to ship out orders?

The production of a Zhinh piece does not stop at the creation of the garment itself, as each piece is carefully prepared and intentionally packed with love before shipping out to its new home. If you have ordered a RTS (ready to ship) piece please allow 1 week for it to ship. Sometimes it will take up to 1.5 weeks depending on the size of the shop release because there will be many orders to ship and the packing takes a lot of craft, care and intention. If you have ordered from a MTO release (made to order) refer to FAQs for MTO to see how long it might take before ship out date and or the given estimated ship out date of the MTO piece that you purchased.

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes! I do ship worldwide:) each place will be different rates but usually ranges anywhere from about $15-$30.

How do shop releases work? What are they like?

Shop releases will be announced on instagram and through an email update if you have subscribed to the Zhinh email list. So far, shop releases have been pretty crazy because of the attendance so I strongly suggest to set an alarm on your calendar so that you don’t forget if you don’t want to miss out.

How to stay updated on releases and collections?

Shop releases will be announced on Instagram and through an email update if you have subscribed to the Zhinh email list. Shop releases will be announced at least 2 week before the release date.

Washing Instructions?

Machine washing is okay, wash on delicate cycle in COLD water with light detergent and AIR dry! I suggest washing with your darks. Heat is not the best for fabric and the dryer will quickly fade colors and be harsh on the bleach designs.

Where are you located? Do you have a physical store?

Zhinh is now located in Los Angeles, CA in a private art studio where everything is handmade. Zhinh does not have a physical store, all sales are online for now.;)

Size Chart?

Each style of clothing will have a different size chart, as the sewing patterns and fabric used vary from style to style. I encourage you to send me your measurements.

How are the designs created on the tops?

This will vary from piece to piece but my main technique is with the use of bleach water and an ingredient that removes dye from fabric.

The landscape designs are all stencils hand drawn and hand cut by me and then used with bleach to create the desired designs over the dyed fabric or some designs are free hand painted on. If the garment is plant dyed, mostly I will hand paint and/or stencil on my designs using various metals like iron or copper or ph modifiers.

How does the bleach affect your clothing over time since bleach is abrasive?

I recently discovered a way to neutralize the harmful bleach reaction with a non-toxic ingredient so that it stops the bleach from being active right after the designs are put on. If the washing instructions are followed correctly then they should last as long as your other clothes. (Cold water, delicate cycle, light detergent, and hang air dry). I also use a method that does not involve bleach that removes the dye from the fabric so I can paint my designs on and this is not harmful to the fabric.

Do you take customs?

This depends on the time, Zhinh is a very fluid "business" meaning things are not always definite. There are waves and moments that I will open customs and moments when I do not accept any customs. For the most part, cutoms are not usually open but I will sometimes accept customs to people who have been with me for awhile and those who have built a connection/relationship with me through Instagram over the years.

So feel free to send over an email if you have a custom desires, with photos of what you are thinking. Most pieces that I create are truly one of a kind pieces (not able to replicate) so its difficult to accept customs that are based on specific desired past designs. I am open to hearing your desires but please know that nothing is guaranteed. :)<3

What are your price ranges?

Pricing varies from piece to piece. Factors such as the process, cost of fabric, and types of dyes play a role in the cost. Some/most pieces are one of a kind and incapable of being replicated. There are also add ons that affect the price such as embroidery details.

Tops can range from $85-$190

Dresses range from $200-$300

Skirts range from $120-$150

Prices fluctuate due to demand, and fluctuating supply costs. Everything is cut, sewn, constructed, dyed, decorated, photographed, packed by Zoe, with occasional help. I also sometimes do collaborations with other clothing makers and help from a small local non profit small business that help with small production of sewing the basket styled tops. Eventually, I hope to expand my sources of help so I can offer more without over extending myself.

Sustainability & What kind of dyes do you work with?

Zhinh works with plant dyes and also works with synthetic dyes that are avo free. But even with plant dying, I still use heavy metals in the process of dyeing and mordanting. In order to achieve most of the landscapes, part of the process is dyeing a piece in many separate dye baths and washing it between stages sometimes to achieve the surreal landscapes that I make possible on fabric. But this is also a very very small scale in which im creating these works of art.

These garments are made possible by the use bleach and an ingredient that removes dye to achieve the handprinted details and the stenciling of landscapes and those 2 are obviously not natural.

I always make conscious efforts to reduce excess water usage by saving old dye baths and just adding to them instead of just dumping all of the bath away, also making sure I have a nice handful of clothes to wash so I can wash in one load instead of many separate loads. Whether it's plant dyes or non plant dyes, I usually keep the pots of the dye in the pots and just keep adding to them. I dye as many fabric scraps as I can to use as packing ribbon or as clothing tag fabric because all clothing tags are hand screen printed in studio. When I use dyes that aren't plants, I soak fabric scraps in the dye baths to soak up the excess color in dye baths to reduce dye water that goes into drain. When it comes to plant dyes, I try to keep the buckets of alum mordant water for as long as I can and just add to it, without dumping away as many times and also with the iron water, I try to keep using the same bucket of iron water when dipping my cloths, but when cleaning the metals out, it still runs off into water. But at the small scale in what im producing, it has a very little impact.

I only purchase plant fiber fabrics and organic. The fabrics that make the classic basket styled dresses and tops do have a small percentage of 4% spandex in the mix, to give it a nice comfortable stretch. Sometimes I will have items that are thrifted/secondhand clothes that I like to flip(dye and design.) When I find other clothing to flip/collaborate with, I always choose organic brands.

When cutting my patterns out, I carefully map out each piece so that I use as much of the fabric that I can to reduce fabric scraps. Many fabric scraps are then used as clothing tags and packing ribbon.

Sometimes I receive very small production help from a local non profit small business that prides in sustainable and ethical practices.

The mailers I use are from the amazing brand called "Impack" where they offer bio degradable packaging that bio degrade faster then other ones.

I use all organic fabrics and or dead stock fabrics which are fabrics that were not used from other designers collections.
